The Ajloun Forest Reserve (13 square kilometres, 1988) protects some of Jordan's best oak and pistachio woodland, and with the castle it forms the north's richest birdwatching area. Look for the Syrian serin, short-toed treecreeper, sombre tit and wintering finches in the cool forest.
