Little Petra (Siq al-Barid)

Little Petra travel guide: the Siq al-Barid ruins, frescoes, and how it fits a Petra itinerary.

Little Petra, known in Arabic as Siq al-Barid, is a smaller Nabataean complex a short drive from the main Petra site. Freer to explore and far less crowded, it features narrow canyons, carved facades and rare painted frescoes that hint at ancient Jordanian home life.

It is easy to see in one to two hours and is often grouped with Petra and the Monastery trail. Many travellers who hire car & driver in Jordan use Little Petra as a gentle warm-up on arrival day, and full package tours to Jordan frequently include it as a quiet complement to the main city.
